who is a main street member?
Funding for Main Street Greenwood, Inc. is generated through a variety of sources; sources such as local government, grants, self-generated funds, and annual investments. Investments allow businesses, organizations, and individuals to take an active, annual role in Main Street Greenwood, Inc. It is through annual investments that revitalization becomes an ongoing, sustainable process rather than a one-time event.
At Main Street Greenwood, we encourage investment from throughout the community, not just within the downtown realm. Because Historic Downtown Greenwood is home to government, local financial institutions, and numerous local businesses, it truly is the core to our vibrant community economy. A Main Street membership is an investment for the future of Greenwood.
Investment benefits go beyond voting rights, decals, and directory listings. Membership in Main Street Greenwood now means you are working with us to foster in a new year of facilitation, innovation, and collaboration to preserve and promote the heart of our community.
Here’s how we work and why our program works:
Facilitate downtown business development through real estate location & business formation services.
Maintain downtown property values through façade grants and tax credits.
Host promotional events, such as Que on the Yazoo, to draw people into downtown.
Collaborate with the City of Greenwood, Leflore County, Greenwood CVB, Greenwood Leflore EDF, & Greenwood Leflore Chamber of Commerce.
Remove the red tape of downtown development and historic preservation by advocating and implementing ordinances necessary to encourage development.
